To Restful Shores of the Free I Ride

Image

Bereft of chains that bind your soul
On a solitary breeze I find my guide
Far from death and the madding crowd
To restful shores of the free I ride

The trees of the sands I leave behind
As the wind lifts me to a wishful sea
Above the lands and the vengeful wild
From a time forlorn to a spirit free

Below the clouds of the big bright blue
As the sun beats down a long lost lane
A little boy chased the leaves of fall
And farther they flew the faster he ran

The leaves flew far from his open hands
And alone he stood in the timeless rain
For those who left on that evening dark
Were far gone, never to be back again

A wild wind howled on the fateful night
Alone he walked through the lonely lane
With an empty soul from an empty time
Through sun, the storm and eternal pain

Then a phoenix wailed an endless cry
As the roses bloomed in final goodbye
In the holy light from a moonless night
His spirit was freed to the endless sky

Bereft of chains that bound his soul
In joyous winds he found his guides
Far from death and the madding crowd
To restful shores of the free he rides
