Lullaby in the Woods

Image

How magical the moon, the quiet, this night
This blissful melody of peaceful waters
Flowing serenely in heart of the woods
Removed, alone, content and pure
The stream’s melody, the nature’s song
This quietens me when nothing else could
Scars of a turbulent past I bear still
This calms me when nothing else would

It’s never all black and white, they say
Yet that was all I ever saw
Time still went on, life still moved on
But greys, though late, finally caught on
Some things will never be the same
Some things were never meant to be
Life’s what you make of it they say
The truth of it I might never see

But somehow this is all but a blur
Time has frozen, am I healed?
Must be a dream for I am at peace
The moon’s nightsong is nothing but bliss
The waters shine with the moon’s glory
The cool breeze gushes with festive serenity
Mesmerised I walk to the moonlit stream
And lose myself in my mother’s beauty

Years drenched in pain an alien retrospection
Somehow the heart feels lighter tonight
Every timeless wound, every painful memory
Seem all so sudden a different man’s story
Is this a lesson? Is this my heaven?
But the answer to this is already with me
Years spent in hunger, in quest of that answer
My imprisoned mind, you’re finally free

Beside this shore I found my peace
Watched by the moon, the doting stars
The caring embrace of the gentle wind
The sweet lullaby of the benevolent stream
A world within a world, a surreal fantasy
Of hope in this world I thought was lost
A world beyond a world, an unreal ecstacy
Of feelings in heart which were all but dust

Was it a day, a month, a year?
I know not how long by the river I sat
The gift of peace, the treasure of care
Were all too much for this heart to spare
My mother filled me with riches unbound
All with a promise to treasure her treasure
What was my weakness now is my strength
The power of this heart is beyond all measure

How magical the moon, the quiet, this night
This blissful melody of peaceful waters
Flowing serenely in heart of the woods
Removed, alone, content and pure
The stream’s melody, the nature’s song
This enlivens me like nothing else could
A sense of belonging, of purpose, of future
This makes me hopeful like true happiness would

Wrote this poem last year on a December night.

  1. You have the power to make a reader get hooked..I’m not a fan of reading poems mate..but that..that just made me read it again and again..you’v got some beautiful vocab my friend..I loved how you used the words there..simply terrific.. 🙂

  2. Hi,

I have to say that I came to this site because of the picture. It is so wonderful.. But when I read first line of your poem I could not stop. For me, it is like a journey into the beauty and mystery of nature. I love this kind of poetry, I am trying to write similar poets. I think that you have to be a great person. During reading your poem I feel like walking through forrest. The smell of trees, sound of stream, singing of birds.. Life is full of beauty, people just have to teach to see it. Thank you very much, your poem is amazing, great piece of art. Greetings from Czech republic!!

    1. Ah, thanks a lot for your kind words my friend. I’m glad you enjoyed it and really felt my words as that was my primary aim. I really hope you write lots of poetry as you already can see through the eyes of a poet and that is a pretty big thing.
